Prediagnosing Psoriatic Arthritis

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the joints, skin, and other organs. It is characterized by inflammation of the joints, which can lead to pain, swelling, and stiffness.

Symptoms of psoriatic arthritis tend to come and go, and may only be noticeable when the joints are inflamed. Some people with mild forms of the disease might only need treatment when their joints hurt, while others may experience more severe symptoms.

If you have psoriasis or are at risk for developing it, you’re also at risk for getting psoriatic arthritis. This painful joint disease can cause significant discomfort and impact your quality of life.

To diagnose psoriatic arthritis, your doctor will typically perform a physical examination, take a medical history, and may order imaging tests such as X-rays or an MRI to evaluate the joints.

If you’re diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, treatment options may include medications such as biologics, disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

In addition to medication, lifestyle changes can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life. These may include maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep.

Dietary changes may also be beneficial in managing psoriatic arthritis. Some research suggests that certain diets, such as the autoimmune protocol diet, may help alleviate symptoms.

Surgery may be necessary in some cases to repair damaged joints or relieve pain.

Physical therapy can help improve joint mobility and strength, while occupational therapy can teach you how to perform daily activities with less strain on your joints.

Managing stress and getting mental health support is also essential for coping with psoriatic arthritis.
