Our women’s health department is led by Dr. Susan Atai, Obstetrics & Gynaecology Specialist, who leads our maternity unit and is skilled in caesarean sections, obstetric fistula repair, and minimally invasive gynaecology. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for all women’s health needs.

Prenatal Care (Antenatal Care) at Michoes

Regular antenatal checkups protect you and your baby. Dr. Susan Atai recommends:

  • First visit before 12 weeks of pregnancy
  • Monthly visits until 28 weeks
  • Bi-monthly visits from 28-36 weeks
  • Weekly visits from 36 weeks until delivery

Services include blood pressure monitoring, urine testing, ultrasound referrals, anemia screening, malaria prevention (IPTp), tetanus vaccination, and nutrition counseling. We also provide insecticide-treated nets for pregnant women.

Postnatal Care for Mothers in Eastern Uganda

After delivery, we provide 6-week postnatal checkups including: wound healing assessment (C-section or vaginal), blood pressure monitoring, anemia treatment, family planning counseling, breastfeeding support, and newborn examination. We also screen for postpartum depression and provide mental health support.

Family Planning and Contraception Services

Dr. Susan Atai and our team provide confidential family planning services including: oral contraceptive pills, injectable contraceptives (Depo-Provera every 3 months), implants (Jadelle lasting 3-5 years), intrauterine devices (IUDs lasting 5-10 years), emergency contraception (morning after pill), condoms (male and female), and natural family planning education. All services are affordable and private.

Cervical Cancer Screening (Pap Smear)

Cervical cancer is preventable. We offer Pap smear and visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) screening. Early detection saves lives. Women aged 25-49 should be screened every 3-5 years. We also provide HPV vaccination information and referrals.
