Conditions We Can Treat by Telemedicine

Many common conditions can be managed virtually. Our doctors will use your symptoms and history to make a diagnosis and treatment plan. Conditions suitable for telemedicine include:

  • Fever and malaria: We can advise on malaria testing (you can get a rapid test at a nearby lab or pharmacy) and prescribe Coartem if appropriate. If severe, we will send you to Michoes.
  • Cough and cold: Upper respiratory infections, allergy, sinusitis. We recommend over-the-counter medications, rest, fluids.
  • Diarrhoea and vomiting: Oral rehydration advice, when to seek care. We prescribe antiemetics or antibiotics if bacterial cause suspected.
  • Headache and body pain: Tension headache, migraine, muscle pain. We advise pain relievers and red flag symptoms.
  • Skin rashes: Describe the rash or send a photo via WhatsApp. We diagnose fungal, bacterial, or allergic rashes and prescribe creams or oral medications.
  • Urinary symptoms: Burning urine, frequent urination. We advise on clean catch urine test and prescribe antibiotics for UTI when appropriate.
  • Chronic disease follow-up: Diabetes, hypertension, asthma, epilepsy. We review your symptoms, adjust medications, and advise when to come for blood tests or BP check.
  • Mental health: Anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia. We provide counselling, lifestyle advice, and prescribe antidepressants (first visit sometimes requires in-person assessment).
  • HIV care: Refill requests, side effect management, adherence support. For stable patients on ART, we can do virtual consultations quarterly, with annual in-person visits.
  • Pregnancy advice: Minor concerns (nausea, discharge). For danger signs (bleeding, headache, reduced fetal movement), we will send you to Michoes immediately.
  • Paediatric minor illness: Fever, cough, diarrhoea in a child who is alert, drinking, and playing. We advise home care and danger signs. If child is lethargic, not drinking, or breathing fast, we tell you to come in.

Call to Action: Do not ignore symptoms because you are far away. Call +256701364362 for a telemedicine consultation.

  • Convulsions/seizures
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Severe trauma, fracture, or deep wound (needs physical exam and X-ray)
  • Child with difficulty breathing, unable to drink, or lethargic

If you have any of these, call our emergency line +256701364362 immediately and come to Michoes. Do not wait for a telemedicine appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Telemedicine in Kumi and Soroti

Do I need a smartphone?

No. A basic phone for voice call is enough. Video consultation requires a smartphone with WhatsApp or Zoom.

Can you prescribe medication over the phone?

Yes, for appropriate conditions (uncomplicated malaria, UTI, respiratory infection, hypertension refill, etc.). We will send the prescription to our pharmacy. You or a family member can collect it. For controlled drugs (tramadol, diazepam, morphine), we require an in-person visit.

What if I need a laboratory test?

We will advise you on the nearest lab to your location (or you can travel to Michoes). You can send us the results via WhatsApp, and we will interpret them and adjust treatment.

Can my child have a telemedicine consultation?

Yes, with you present. For children under 5, we prefer video call so we can see the child’s breathing, activity level, and appearance.

What if my problem is an emergency?

Do not use telemedicine for emergencies. Call +256701364362 and come to Michoes immediately.
