Frequently Asked Questions About Paediatric Care in Kumi and Soroti

How often should I bring my child for check-ups?

At birth, 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 14 weeks, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 2 years, then annually. But bring your child ANY time you are worried – no appointment needed.

What vaccines are required for school?

Uganda requires BCG, Polio, Pentavalent, PCV, Rotavirus, Measles & Rubella, and Yellow Fever for school entry. We provide all on schedule and give catch-up vaccines.

My child has had fever for 3 days. Should I come?

Yes. Fever for more than 2 days without improvement, or any fever with danger signs (fast breathing, lethargy, convulsions, inability to drink) needs immediate assessment.

Can I get malaria treatment without a test?

No. National guidelines require a test before treatment to prevent drug resistance. We do rapid tests with results in 15 minutes.

My child is underweight. What should I do?

Come for growth monitoring and nutrition counselling. Dr. Adoa Pious will assess for underlying causes (malaria, worms, chronic infection, feeding problems) and advise on high-energy foods.

Do you see children with sickle cell disease?

Yes. We provide preventive penicillin, folic acid, malaria prevention, pain management, and treat complications like infections and anaemia. We also refer for specialised care when needed.
