Why Choose Michoes for Orthopedic Care in Eastern Uganda?

Orthopedic Conditions We Treat at Michoes

Our team, led by Michael Emusugut, manages a wide range of orthopedic conditions affecting adults and children across Eastern Uganda.

Fractures and Broken Bones

Common fractures we treat include arm fractures (humerus, radius, ulna), leg fractures (femur, tibia, fibula), ankle fractures, wrist fractures, and collarbone fractures. We provide closed reduction (setting the bone without surgery), plaster casting, splinting, and when necessary, surgical referral to our Head of Surgery, Nicholas Iyamitai. We also manage open fractures (bone through skin) with emergency wound care and antibiotics.

Call to Action: If you think you have a broken bone, do not move the limb. Call +256701364362. We will advise you. Come immediately or we can help arrange transport advice.

Joint Pain and Arthritis

Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are common in Kumi and Soroti, especially among farmers and older adults. We provide pain management, anti-inflammatory medications, joint injections (corticosteroids), and weight-bearing advice. For severe cases, we refer for surgical consultation. Dr. Susan Atai also assists with arthritis in pregnancy.

Call to Action: Do not suffer in silence. Come for a joint pain assessment. Call +256701364362 to book a same-day appointment.

Back and Neck Pain

Back pain from heavy lifting, prolonged sitting on boda bodas, or farming injuries is very common. We evaluate for muscle strain, herniated discs, and spinal fractures. Treatment includes rest, medication, physical therapy exercises, and ergonomic advice. If red flags (loss of bladder control, leg weakness, fever) appear, we order imaging or refer urgently.

Call to Action: For back pain that does not improve after 3 days of rest, see us. Call +256701364362.

Sports and Boda Boda Injuries

Eastern Uganda’s roads and active lifestyle lead to many injuries: sprains, strains, dislocations, and fractures. We treat ankle sprains, knee ligament injuries (ACL, MCL), shoulder dislocations, and lacerations. Michael Emusugut has extensive experience in trauma from road traffic accidents. We provide immediate stabilization, reduction of dislocations, and follow-up care.

Call to Action: Injured while playing football or in a boda boda accident? Go to Michoes emergency department immediately. Call ahead if possible: +256701364362.

Pediatric Orthopedic Conditions

Dr. Adoa Pious works with Michael Emusugut to manage children’s orthopedic issues: broken bones from falls, clubfoot (we offer Ponseti method guidance), developmental dysplasia of the hip, and limping child evaluation. We ensure child-friendly casting and pain control.

Call to Action: If your child falls and cannot move a limb, bring them to Michoes. We see children 24/7. Call +256701364362.

Osteoporosis and Fragility Fractures

Older adults in Kumi, Bukedea, and Ngora are at risk for osteoporosis—weak bones that break easily. We offer risk assessment, calcium and vitamin D advice, and medications to strengthen bones. Fragility fractures (hip, wrist, spine) receive prompt care.

Call to Action: If you are over 60 and have had a fall, come for a bone health check. Call +256701364362 to schedule.

Orthopedic Emergency? Do This Now

Signs of an orthopedic emergency include: bone sticking through skin, visible deformity, inability to move a limb, severe pain, numbness or tingling, and cold or pale fingers/toes below the injury. Do not try to straighten the bone yourself. Immobilize the limb. Call us. Come to Michoes Medical Centre emergency department—we are open 24 hours.

Emergency Call to Action: Dial +256701364362 now. Tell us it’s an orthopedic emergency. We will prepare for your arrival.
