Laboratory services

What we offer: Haematology (blood counts, malaria), clinical chemistry (glucose, kidney/liver function, lipids), microbiology (urine culture, wound swabs), serology (HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), and basic histology (tissue samples – sent out).

Turnaround times:

  • Urgent (emergency) results: Within 2 hours
  • Routine results: Same day (if sample collected before 2pm)
  • Specialised tests (cultures, histology): 3–5 days (sent to external labs)

Sample collection: Blood, urine, stool, sputum, wound swabs, and tissue biopsies.

Quality assurance: We participate in external quality assessment (EQA) programs. Our equipment is calibrated regularly. Staff are trained in laboratory safety.

  • Full blood count (FBC) – anaemia, infection, blood disorders
  • Malaria rapid diagnostic test (RDT) and microscopy
  • Blood glucose – diabetes screening and monitoring
  • HbA1c – long-term diabetes control
  • Kidney function (creatinine, urea) – kidney disease
  • Liver function tests (ALT, AST, bilirubin) – liver disease
  • Lipid profile – cholesterol, heart disease risk
  • Urinalysis – urinary tract infection, kidney disease
  • Pregnancy test
  • HIV test (rapid)
  • Hepatitis B and C screening
  • Typhoid test
  • Brucella test
  • Stool analysis – parasites, occult blood
  • Sputum AFB – TB screening
  • Wound swab culture and sensitivity (sent out)
