How to Prepare for Your Lab Test
- Fasting blood tests (glucose, lipid profile, HbA1c): Do not eat or drink anything except water for 8-12 hours before. Take your regular medications unless instructed otherwise.
- Non-fasting tests (FBC, LFTs, KFTs, HIV, hepatitis, malaria, typhoid): No preparation needed.
- Urine tests: For clean-catch midstream urine: wash hands and genital area. Start urinating, then collect midstream in sterile container. For pregnancy test, first morning urine is best.
